Veer Energy & Infrastructure is planning to set up a 25 MW solar power plant at Shivlakha village in Kutch district of Gujarat. The project cost is estimated at Rs. 3000 million. The company has acquired 200 acres of land, where it is 1.5 km from Chadrodi village sub-station. The company also plans to set up a rooftop solar project in Sanand district of Gujarat. It will install 400 thin-film panels of 58.5 watts each for a rooftop project in joint venture with US-based New Millennium Solar Equipment Corporation. The unit has already imported thin film panels from NMSEC for the project.
Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd had set up a 1 MW solar power plant on Narmada Canal of Sardar Sarovar Nigam Ltd near Chandrasan village in Kadi Taluk in Gujarat. This unique project prevents water evaporation from the canal to the tune of 90 lakh litres annually besides saving land required from the project. Besides, efficiency of the solar modules go up, due to the water from the canal cools them.
GMR Energy, a subsidiary of GMR Infrastructure is setting up a 25 MW solar power project in Charanka village in Pathan in Gujarat with an investment of Rs.. 3600 million. The project is likely to go operational in December 2011 and the company is keen to invest more in solar power projects to take the capacity from current 25 MW to 200 MW. It may be noted, earlier the company has shown interest in wind power but dropped due to low plant load factor in wind power plants.
The company had signed a 25 year power purchase agreement with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd.
