Himachal Pradesh government makes pro solar policy


Himachal Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission has made a change in its policy to procure 0.1% of solar power purchases for the year 2011-12 and 2012-13 by the distribution symposium license. It has also fixed a target of adding 10 MW solar power installation in the state by the year 2017.

Safesky to set up solar projects in India


Safesky Software, an Isarel based company has technology that which is around 40% cheaper solar power projects is venturing into India. It is in talks with various state governments and private developers. Safesky technology need only 3000 sq.meter of solar panel as against 80,000 sq.meter being used now. The company operates on business-operate-transfer model and financed projects for its customers and has installed over 2000 MW of power projects worldwide.

Vortex to deploy solar powered ATM’s for SBI


Vortex Engineering, a Chennai based engineering company which manufactures  automated teller machines (ATM) has developed a solar powered ATM with support from IIT, Chennai. It had been pilot tested at Cuddalore and now State Bank of India (SBI) had placed orders to deploy 545 ATMS across rural India. Conventional ATMs require 1000 watt of power plus requires an air conditioned requirement  consumes around 1800 units, whereas a solar powered equipment consumes less than 80 units resulting a savings of Rs.1 lakh a month. These ATM’s are branded a Grammateller which could be in huge demand considering low penetration of ATM’s in India (0.04 per 1000)
