Wipro to venture into solar power generation

Wipro, the IT major is venturing into solar energy by setting up Wipro Eco Energy. It plans to build solar plants with a capacity from 1 MW to 25 MW. Currently, it is setting up small projects in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Rajasthan. It has a strong 100 engineer team and has plans to make the venture global in the next 2 years. It also plans to offer third party maintenance services for solar plants. It also offers consultancy and advisory services for the solar ventures

Tata Power enters into partnership with Sunengy for floating solar power plant

Tata Power has entered into a partnership with Australian solar power company Sunengy Pty Ltd that will allow the Australian company to build a pilot plant using its low-cost, floating (on water) solar technology in India by end of 2011. Unconfirmed reports also suggest that Tata Power has picked up a stake in Sunengy Pty Ltd.

Reliance Power plans 250 MW solar wind energy plants


Reliance Power is planning to reduce carbon foot prints in an effort to close the deal with US Exim Bank to fund its Ultra Mega Power projects. According to sources, US government policies will not encourage financing a coal based project. The mix of renewable energy like wind and solar powered plants will be set up in coastal districts of Gujarat and Maharashtra to offset its carbon foot prints. Further, the company has agreed to reduce its carbon emissions to 850 gms to a kwh in Sasan UMPP.
