Enzen Global, a solar energy consulting company is planning to utilize the water bodies in the states of Karnataka to generate solar power. According to estimates, Karnataka can generate around 1000 MW of solar power. The barge mounted solar plant will cover one-third of the lake. The company plans to collaborate with owners like Panchayats, govt bodies and private stakeholders to develop these projects. Enzen will work on liasioning with owners and securing permissions to develop the projects while its French partner-Ciet-el-terre will take care of the technical aspects of the solar project. As an added advantage, the solar panels will also have aerators which will purify the lake in the long run. Further the costs of barge mounted solar panels compare with that of a regular solar plant in land.

Karnataka Power Corp to set up 5 MW solar power plant in Shivasamudram in Mandya district of Karnataka. BHEL has been awarded the turnkey contract which is valued at Rs.620 million. The generated solar power will be connected to grid.
