KPCL, a state owned enterprise is planning to set its first solar plant, a 3 MW solar photo-voltaic plant in Yelesandra village in Bangarupet taluka in Kolar district. This will be a pilot project while the next ones are planned at Shikaripur taluk in Shimoga district and in Itnal village in Chikodi taluk of Belgaum district. These projects will supply 3 MW during day time (i.e, 11 am to 5 pm) to state grid, which will be helpful to meet the irrigation power supply demand. Tenders for the project has been invited and among applicants include BHEL, Tata BP Solar, Zecon Solar of USA, Sun Technics etc., These project are expected to be commissioned by November 2009. Total investment is around Rs.2250 million.
