West Bengal Green Energy Corp Ltd (WBGECL) is keen to set up projects with nano technology photo-voltaic cell projects (third generation solar power technology mainly used in USA, Japan and Germany) and related R&D into the state. The nano PV cells are most efficient and reduce overall cost of power production. Current power generation from crystalline PV solar cell costs Rs. 160 million to a MW while nano PV solar cells will cost Rs.120 million per MW thereby saving costs in the long run. WBGECL has also recently signed an agreement with universities to understand this technology by training up scientists at lab level before hoping for commercialisation by 2010.
